Our story

Combined, the people behind AKW have nearly half a century of history and experience in distribution, warehousing, packaging customisation and worldwide freight services. This also means almost 50 years of quality, investment and progressive growth, resulting in us being one of the leading third-party logistics companies in the UK.

In 1981, our current Group Chairman, Tony Worthington, formed AK Worthington Ltd. Paul Welsh, our current Group Operations Director, who started his logistics career working for Tony aged just 18, was led by his ambitious spirit to later establish Global Logistics UK Ltd. in 1997.

Then, in 2009, these two highly successful entrepreneurs crossed paths once again and an idea was born. By 2014 the two companies had boldly joined forces, with a £7.5 million investment into our warehousing facilities and transportation vehicles, becoming the ‘transport powerhouse of the North’ whilst also retaining Global Logistics UK’s Birmingham hub, further expanding our impressive national footprint.
